Hey. I’m Neil. A highly passionate entrepreneur and online marketer. My work can be broken down into two areas – working with marketing agencies and client-side businesses as an SEO and digital marketing consultant, and secondly working on my own side projects.
What does my job entail
My job varies with each contract. This means that I need to be able instantly adapt to each project requirements. This has allowed me develop a wide range of skills. All my contracts one or a mixture of the following.
Keyword research – I’ve worked with clients such as Kate Spade, UBS and Nectar to provide them with keyword research using Keyword Planner, KeywordTool.io, SEM Rush and other tools. Helping them find quick wins and more longer term strategic search terms.
Pitching for new clients – often, I get called to help agencies with their pitching for new business. I recently was heavily involved with an agency winning huge retainer for technical SEO services from world-renowned architecture form.
Technical SEO and audits – I regularly get called to do technical audits of websites to look for underlying issues which would prevent a website from being crawled, indexed. My audits very comprehensive and provide a list of opportunities for a website to implement.
Website rebuilds – I’ve been involved a few website rebuilds. My biggest one was with a huge electric components in the FTSE 150 company, where I had ownership of working closely with both front-end and back-end developers in order to ensure the website is search engine crawler friendly.
Link removal – In early 2015, I worked with a well known insurance client who had been hit by the Penguin penalty update. I used a few backlink analysis tools to identify toxic links pointing to the site and using the disavow tool to remove them.
Off-page SEO and outreach – I started off as a linkbuilder, but this has evolved massively over the years. I’ve worked with a variety of businesses by helping them with blogger outreach using an integrated approach which includes social media. I also regularly consult clients on ways they can create content which will earn them links.
My ethos towards work?
I’m a huge believer of constantly learning and thriving towards being the best and most rounded marketer I can be. This requires regularly working on my skills on weekends and in between contracts. When I’m not working I like to invest into learning sites such Treehouse, Udemy and others resources to enhance my skillset and keep connecting the dots.
I find that new technologies and evolving habits of users make being a marketer an exciting career.
